PM Shehbaz arrives in Switzerland to attend World Economic Forum 2026
DAVOS: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Switzerland on Tuesday to lead a high-level Pakistani delegation at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), scheduled to take place in Davos-Klosters from January 20 to 22, 2026.
Upon arrival, the prime minister was received by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Switzerland Marghoob Butt, and other diplomatic officials.
In a statement posted on X after reaching Davos, PM Shehbaz said he would advance Pakistan’s engagement with global trade and investment partners during the forum. He said Pakistan’s ongoing economic reform journey was unlocking significant opportunities, driven by a resilient workforce and strong potential in sectors including energy, agriculture, minerals and emerging technologies. He added that Pakistan was ready to transform this potential into mutually beneficial economic cooperation and long-term investment.
The prime minister is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, along with senior government officials.
According to the Foreign Office, PM Shehbaz will hold multiple key engagements during the forum, including participation in the WEF’s Informal Gathering of World Economic Leaders (IGWEL) session titled “Restoring a Spirit of Dialogue in a Divided World.”

The premier will also host and chair a Pakistan-specific high-level business roundtable with leading corporate executives and interact with several world leaders and business figures on the sidelines of the event.
The Foreign Office said the prime minister will present Pakistan’s perspective on global and regional peace and development, while outlining the government’s vision and achievements in the areas of economy, trade and investment.
The World Economic Forum’s annual meeting brings together political leaders, business executives, heads of international organisations and civil society representatives to discuss key geopolitical, economic, social and environmental challenges facing the world.
