Punjab Assembly resolution seeks Nobel Peace Prize nomination for Pakistan leadership
ISLAMABAD: A resolution has been submitted in the Punjab Assembly seeking the nomination of Shehbaz Sharif, Asim Munir and Ishaq Dar for the Nobel Peace Prize, recognising their diplomatic efforts during the ongoing Middle East crisis.
The resolution, tabled by PML-N Chief Whip Rana Muhammad Arshad, commended the trio for what it described as effective diplomacy that contributed to promoting peace and stability in the region.
Pakistan recently drew international attention after facilitating a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, just hours before a deadline set by Donald Trump for Tehran to comply with American demands.
According to the resolution, the diplomatic engagement led by Islamabad helped de-escalate tensions that had raised fears of a wider conflict involving Iran, the United States and regional allies.
It noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif played a key role in urging restraint and extending diplomatic space, while Field Marshal Asim Munir maintained critical engagements with leadership on both sides. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also remained actively involved, coordinating efforts with key international stakeholders.

The resolution highlighted that the Middle East situation had reached a critical point, with escalating hostilities posing a serious threat to global peace. It added that Pakistan’s timely intervention helped avert further escalation and created an opportunity for dialogue.
Following the ceasefire announcement, Pakistan has invited delegations from both Washington and Tehran to Islamabad for talks aimed at reaching a long-term settlement.
The resolution concludes by calling for the Nobel Peace Prize nomination as recognition of Pakistan’s contribution to global peace efforts during a highly volatile international crisis.
