Suicide blast at wedding in DI Khan kills three, injures seven
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least three people were killed and seven others injured after a suicide blast ripped through a wedding ceremony at the residence of a peace committee leader in Dera Ismail Khan on Friday night, police said.
Law enforcement officials said the blast occurred at the house of Aman Committee head Noor Alam Mehsud near Qureshi Mor while a wedding event was under way. Mehsud was among those injured in the attack.
Police said several people sustained injuries in the explosion and were rushed to hospital for treatment. Five of the injured were shifted to the DHQ Trauma Centre, while others received medical care at nearby facilities.
According to initial investigations, the blast appears to have been a suicide attack. Police said the attackers also resorted to firing after the explosion. The nature of the blast and other details are being further investigated.
Security in the area was tightened following the incident, and a search operation was launched to trace those involved.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist incidents in recent years, particularly after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in 2021. The border provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have been the most affected.

ISPR Director General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry had said in a press briefing on January 6 that law enforcement agencies carried out 75,175 intelligence-based operations across the country in 2025. Of these, 14,658 were conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 58,778 in Balochistan and 1,739 in other parts of the country.
He said a total of 5,397 terrorism incidents were reported nationwide last year, including 3,811 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 1,557 in Balochistan. During counterterrorism operations, 2,597 terrorists were killed.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban to prevent militant groups from using Afghan soil to launch attacks against Pakistan, warning that such incidents have led to heightened tensions and cross-border retaliation.
