An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale startled residents in the New York City region on Friday morning, an unusual occurrence for the area.

The US Geological Survey identified the quake’s epicenter near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, shaking buildings and prompting widespread discussion on social media platforms.

Despite its intensity, there were no immediate reports of damage.

Initially, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre measured the earthquake at 5.5 magnitude.

The tremors were felt across a broad swath of the region, including New York City, New Jersey, northern Pennsylvania, and western Connecticut.

This event serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of seismic activity, even in areas not typically associated with earthquakes.
