Political Violence Surges in Mexico Ahead of June Elections

A Manhunt is Underway for the Perpetrator.

Two mayoral candidates were tragically killed in Mexico on Friday, marking a disturbing escalation in political violence ahead of the June elections.

In the northeastern state of Tamaulipas, a hotspot for organized crime, candidate Noe Ramos was stabbed to death while campaigning in the streets of Mante.

A manhunt is underway for the perpetrator.

Meanwhile, in the southern state of Oaxaca, Alberto Antonio Garcia, a mayoral candidate with the ruling Morena party, was found dead after being reported missing earlier in the week.

His wife, Agar Cancino, the current mayor of San Jose Independencia, was found alive.

This wave of violence has claimed the lives of 15 regional candidates since September 23, according to Integralia, a consulting firm.

Just last week, an aspiring mayor in Celaya was gunned down in broad daylight.

The spiral of violence linked to organized crime has plagued Mexico for years, disproportionately affecting politicians seeking regional positions.
