DUBAI: Afghanistan pulled off a memorable 18-run victory over Pakistan in a high-intensity encounter of the T20I Tri-Series in the UAE, showcasing resilience with both bat and ball.

After opting to bat first, Afghanistan posted 169-5 in their 20 overs, anchored by a superb 64 off 45 balls from Sediqullah Atal and an equally impressive 65 off 45 from Ibrahim Zadran. The pair’s 123-run stand for the second wicket laid a solid platform, while Rashid Khan’s brief cameo (8 off 4) ensured a strong finish.

Pakistan’s chase faltered early as the top order failed to capitalise. Fakhar Zaman looked threatening with 25 off 18 but fell at a crucial stage. A late flourish from Shaheen Shah Afridi, who smashed an unbeaten 34 from 16 deliveries, briefly lifted Pakistan’s hopes, yet the innings closed at 151-9.

Afghanistan’s bowlers remained composed under pressure. Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Noor Ahmad picked up two wickets apiece, while Fazalhaq Farooqi and Allah Ghazanfar struck key blows to dismantle Pakistan’s batting.

With the victory, Afghanistan underlined their growing dominance in the ongoing tri-series, combining power-hitting with disciplined bowling to secure back-to-back wins.

Sediqullah Atal was named Player of the Match for his anchoring 64-run knock.
