Gary Kirsten Named Pakistan’s White-Ball Head Coach
Gary Kirsten would assume the role of head coach for Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team, disclosed Mohammad Yousuf, Pakistan’s batting coach and a member of the PCB selection committee.
He in a press conference, on Tuesday, clarified queries regarding the composition of the selection committee, highlighting the diverse backgrounds of its members, including the newly appointed head coach Gary Kirsten from South Africa.
Earlier reports had indicated that Kirsten would lead the white-ball team, while Jason Gillespie would take charge of the Test side after the series against New Zealand.
Yousuf dismissed allegations of bias towards Lahore-based players, emphasizing the committee’s commitment to balance in squad selection.
During the briefing, Yousuf congratulated Usman Khan and Irfan Khan Niazi for their maiden selection in the national squad.
He commended their performances at the domestic level, urging aspiring youngsters to follow their lead.
Yousuf specifically highlighted Niazi’s outstanding contributions in domestic cricket and his breakthrough in the Pakistan Super League with the Karachi Kings.
He emphasized the importance of dedication and perseverance in achieving success at the highest level.
The PCB selection committee recently unveiled a 17-man squad for the upcoming home series against New Zealand, featuring five T20I matches.
The series will kick off at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium before concluding at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
