ISLAMABAD: A sports card signed by basketball legends Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant has set a new world record, selling for over PKR 36.36 crore (approximately $2.1 million), making it the most expensive sports collectible card ever sold.

The auction took place on the Heritage Auctions platform and featured a card containing images of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, their autographs, and NBA logo patches. Collectors and enthusiasts worldwide competed for the card, which surpassed the previous record held by the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card. The Mantle card had been sold for more than PKR 35 crore in August 2022.

The Heritage Auctions team did not disclose the identity of the winning bidder. The platform has also listed sports cards of tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic for auction. So far, these cards have received bids of around $39,000, against a base price of over $470,000.

This historic sale underlines the growing global market for sports memorabilia, especially cards associated with legendary athletes, and highlights the increasing interest of collectors willing to pay record sums for rare items.
