The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has started preliminary discussions on central contracts for national players for the 2025-26 season as the current three-year financial agreement nears its end.

While no major changes to the list of contracted players are anticipated, minor adjustments in player categories could be made based on performances in the 2024-25 season.

Sources indicate that players like Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali, and Faheem Ashraf—who were excluded last year—are under consideration for a return.

Top domestic performers may also secure spots in Category D as emerging players.

The existing contracts, introduced in 2023 under former chairman Zaka Ashraf, expire on June 30, but PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is expected to retain the current structure for another year.

Last season, the PCB categorized players into four tiers, with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in Category A, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Shan Masood in Category B.

Five newcomers were included in the 2023-24 contracts as part of the board’s talent development strategy.

The PCB has yet to release an official statement, but insiders suggest announcements will follow after performance evaluations.
