PCB weighs fines for players after T20 WC 2026 exit
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering imposing penalties on national players following the team’s disappointing performance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, sources told Geo Super on Monday.
The 2009 champions were eliminated from the 20-team tournament last week after failing to secure a significant-margin victory against Sri Lanka national cricket team in their final Super Eights fixture.
Pakistan’s five-wicket win over Sri Lanka remained their only victory against a full-member side in the competition. They suffered defeats to arch-rivals India national cricket team in the group stage and England national cricket team in the Super Eights, while their clash against New Zealand national cricket team was washed out due to persistent rain in Colombo.

The early exit marked Pakistan’s second consecutive failure to reach the semi-finals, with their last deep run coming in the 2022 edition when they finished as runners-up.
According to sources, the PCB is examining the possibility of fining certain players up to Rs5 million each for what has been described as underwhelming performances during the tournament. The board is currently reviewing the legal framework and potential complications before finalising any decision.
Sources further indicated that any fines, if imposed, would not be applied uniformly. Players considered to have delivered “extremely disappointing” performances could face heavier penalties, while those who performed satisfactorily may avoid financial sanctions.
Following their World Cup exit, the Green Shirts are scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series in Dhaka from March 11 to 15.
