UN Security Council Condemns Suicide Bombing Attack at Islamabad Imambargah
The United Nations Security Council has condemned in the strongest terms the suicide bombing terrorist attack at a Imambargah in Islamabad on February 6, 2026, which killed at least 32 Pakistani nationals and left 92 others injured.
In a press statement issued by Security Council President James Kariuki, the members described the assault as a “heinous and cowardly” act of terrorism. The extremist group ISIL (Daesh) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Council expressed its deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the Imambargah blast victims, as well as to the Government and people of Pakistan, while wishing a speedy and full recovery to those wounded.
Reaffirming that terrorism in all forms remains one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, the members underlined the importance of holding perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors accountable and bringing them to justice.

They urged all States, in line with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to actively cooperate with Pakistan in efforts to investigate and prosecute those responsible.
The Council reiterated that terrorism is criminal and unjustifiable regardless of motive, time or place, and stressed the need for all nations to combat terrorist threats by all lawful means in accordance with the UN Charter and international obligations, including human rights, refugee and humanitarian law.
