Ride-hailing giant Uber has announced that it will be ceasing its operations in Pakistan, effective April 30.

The company, which had already scaled back its operations in the country in 2022, will be handing over its services to its subsidiary Careem in Lahore, the only city where it was still operating.

According to an Uber spokesperson, the decision is part of the company’s global growth strategy, which has seen it roll back or merge operations with Careem in various markets.

“Our subsidiary brand Careem will continue to operate, with the Careem app offering ride-hailing services across Pakistan and earning opportunities for drivers,” the spokesperson said.

In an email to users, Uber announced that it had made the “difficult decision to no longer offer the Uber app services in Lahore as of April 30”.

However, users will still be able to access ride-hailing services through the Careem app, ensuring a seamless experience.
