Arshad Nadeem wins global sports award in Dubai
Dubai: Pakistan’s Olympic javelin champion Arshad Nadeem has been honoured with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Sports Award in the Global Breakthrough Athlete category during the World Sports Summit in Dubai.
Arshad Nadeem received the award in recognition of his record-breaking performance at the Paris Olympics, where he threw 92.97 metres to win gold. His throw not only earned Pakistan its first-ever Olympic gold medal in javelin but also set a new Olympic and world record, surpassing Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen’s mark that had stood for 16 years.

Speaking after the ceremony, Nadeem described the award as a proud moment for himself and the country. He said international recognition would help inspire young athletes and bring greater attention to javelin throw in Pakistan.
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Sports Award, established in 2008, recognises outstanding achievements and contributions in sports worldwide. Nadeem was the sole Pakistani athlete at this year’s summit, which brought together prominent figures from the global sports community.
