Sana Yousaf murder case: Court sentences main accused to death

Islamabad court also awards 30 years imprisonment and heavy fines in social media influencer killing

ISLAMABAD: A local court in the federal capital on Tuesday sentenced the main accused, Umar Hayat to death in the murder case of social media influencer Sana Yousaf.

Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka announced the reserved judgment and also imposed a fine of Rs2 million on the convict, according to the ruling.

The court additionally awarded 30 years of imprisonment along with multiple other sentences of 10 years each under different charges, along with an overall fine of Rs2.4 million.

Sana Yousaf, who had more than 800,000 followers on TikTok and over a million across social media platforms, was killed at her home in Islamabad on June 2, 2025.

During the trial, the accused retracted his earlier confession, terming the case a “blind murder” and denying all allegations. He claimed he was in Faisalabad at the time of the incident and challenged the investigation process, including CCTV evidence and witness statements.

The prosecution, however, presented 27 witnesses and submitted medical, digital, and forensic evidence, including call records and chat screenshots allegedly linking the accused to the crime.

It also stated that the victim suffered fatal injuries to the heart and lungs due to gunfire, with post-mortem findings supporting the prosecution’s case.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its verdict before announcing the sentence.

Speaking after the judgment, the victim’s father welcomed the decision, saying justice had finally been served after months of legal proceedings, while the victim’s mother also expressed satisfaction with the outcome.
