Seven killed as tourist jeep plunges into ravine in GB’s Chilas
Chilas: At least seven people were killed on Monday after a tourist vehicle travelling towards Fairy Meadows plunged into the Tattu Nala ravine in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Chilas area, police and rescue officials said.
According to police, the jeep was en route to the popular tourist destination when it met with the accident, resulting in the death of all seven occupants, including the driver.
Rescue officials identified the driver as Ziaullah, a resident of Darel in Diamer district. Among the deceased tourists, two were identified as Ali and Sajjad, both from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The remaining four victims are believed to be from Punjab, and efforts are underway to confirm their identities.
Officials said a rescue operation is ongoing to recover the bodies from the steep ravine where the vehicle fell.

Fairy Meadows, located near Nanga Parbat, is a well-known tourist destination, but its narrow and mountainous access roads are often considered highly dangerous, especially for non-local drivers.
This is not the first such incident in the region. In a similar accident in 2024, a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in Diamer district, killing 20 people and injuring 21 others while travelling along the Karakoram Highway.
Authorities have repeatedly warned about the risks of mountain travel in the region, where narrow roads and difficult terrain continue to contribute to frequent road accidents.
