Tarar pays tribute to Turkish people on Democracy and National Unity Day
ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Tuesday paid tribute to the people of Türkiye for defending democracy during the failed coup attempt of 2016, saying their courage and unity had become a symbol of resilience against anti-democratic forces.
Addressing a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of Türkiye’s Democracy and National Unity Day as the chief guest, Tarar said the Turkish nation stood united against a terrorist organisation that sought to overthrow the country’s democratically elected government.
He said no force could weaken the determination of the Turkish people, adding that national unity enables countries to overcome challenges and achieve lasting progress.
The minister paid homage to the 250 people who lost their lives during the failed coup attempt, saying their sacrifices would always be remembered for protecting Türkiye’s democratic institutions.
Highlighting the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Türkiye, Tarar said both countries have consistently stood by each other during difficult times, with their historic relationship growing stronger across generations.
He expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation between Islamabad and Ankara would continue to expand, noting that Türkiye’s emergence as a major economic and defence power had further enhanced its international standing.
