12 killed, 18 injured as heavy rains, flash floods batter KP

PESHAWAR: At least 12 people were killed and 18 others injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the past 48 hours as heavy rains and flash floods triggered multiple incidents across several districts, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Tuesday.

According to the PDMA, the deceased included five men, five children and two women, while the injured comprised 10 men, four women and four children.

The authority said the torrential rains and flash floods also damaged 18 houses across the province. Of these, 15 houses sustained partial damage, while three were completely destroyed.

Rain-related incidents were reported from Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur and several other districts.

The PDMA said Rescue 1122 teams and district administrations were carrying out relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. District authorities have been directed to expedite relief activities and ensure the immediate provision of assistance and essential supplies to affected families.

The disaster management authority said water levels in all major rivers and streams across the province currently remain within normal limits.

According to the PDMA, the prevailing weather system is expected to continue bringing intermittent heavy rainfall across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until July 23.
