Tarar accuses PTI of violence after Rawalpindi firing incident

WEB DESK: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), accusing the party of resorting to violence following a firing incident on Mall Road in Rawalpindi.

Earlier in the day, security forces killed a suspect allegedly involved in the firing during a timely operation, according to security sources.

The suspect, who was a resident of Khyber district, was described by the sources as an “active PTI member”. A PTI party flag, weapons, ammunition and important documents were also reportedly recovered from his possession.

Commenting on the incident, Tarar said there was no justification for the PTI worker to open fire on a security official, particularly as a party flag and other documents were allegedly recovered from him.

The information minister accused PTI of not believing in peaceful protests, saying the nation had already witnessed what he described as the party’s objectives and intentions.

Tarar also accused PTI of being responsible for the deaths of police and Rangers personnel during previous protests.

Commenting on the long march announced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi for September 27, Tarar said PTI could not tolerate Pakistan’s progress.

“They want to spread anarchy in the country and destroy law and order,” he said.

The minister further alleged that violence was part of PTI’s political approach and claimed the party had consistently pursued what he described as a politics of violence.

Tarar said PTI protests had been driven by ulterior motives and accused the party of attempting to disrupt law and order and harm the country.
