CSCEC Middle East marks World Environment Day with awareness drive and clean-up campaign
DUBAI: The Civil and Infrastructure Branch of China State Construction Engineering Corporation Middle East (CSCEC-ME) marked World Environment Day 2026 with a series of environmental awareness and sustainability activities at its Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project.
The event brought together more than 100 employees representing seven nationalities, including Chinese, Pakistani, Indian, Nepali, Bangladeshi, Egyptian and Ghanaian workers, with organisers focusing on practical environmental action rather than ceremonial observances.
The programme began with an awareness session highlighting the importance of environmental protection, sustainable construction practices and the role of individual responsibility in reducing the environmental footprint of construction projects.

Participants actively engaged in the session and concluded it by taking a collective environmental pledge, reaffirming their commitment to protecting the environment both inside and outside the workplace.
The campaign also included the installation of environmental signage across the project site to reinforce sustainability messages among the workforce.
As part of the World Environment Day activities, employees and staff carried out a large-scale clean-up campaign across the project area and nearby surroundings. Approximately 10 bags of waste were collected during the drive, promoting good housekeeping practices and community responsibility.
The event also featured a tree plantation initiative at the site office, while discarded plastic bottles were creatively repurposed into desk planters to encourage the practical application of recycling and reuse principles.
According to project officials, environmental sustainability remains an integral part of daily operations at the site. Metal, wood and general waste are segregated for recycling, while regular environmental toolbox talks are conducted to maintain workforce awareness.
The project also uses treated water for dust suppression, enforces fuel-efficiency and anti-idling measures for machinery and vehicles, and maintains spill prevention systems to protect the nearby marine and coastal environment.
Officials said the World Environment Day programme reflected the organisation’s broader commitment to integrating sustainable practices into large-scale infrastructure development while encouraging environmental responsibility among its workforce.
