Iran signals ‘new management’ of Hormuz Strait amid Gulf tensions
DUBAI: Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has said that a “new management” of the Strait of Hormuz would bring calm and economic benefits to the region, as tensions persist following the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
In a written message released on Thursday, Khamenei said a new chapter had begun for the Gulf region since the conflict erupted on February 28, adding that Iran would ensure security in the vital shipping route and prevent what he described as “enemy abuses.”
“The new management of the Strait of Hormuz will bring calm, progress and economic benefits to all Gulf nations,” he stated.

The remarks come at a time of heightened concern over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, through which a significant portion of global crude exports passes.
Ongoing tensions have disrupted shipping flows and contributed to volatility in global energy markets, pushing oil prices higher in recent weeks.
Tehran has previously indicated it may assert greater control over maritime traffic in the Gulf in response to rising geopolitical pressure, while Western powers have warned against any restrictions on freedom of navigation through the strategic waterway.
