RAWALPINDI: Security forces and law enforcement agencies killed at least 22 “India-sponsored terrorists” in an intelligence-based operation in Khyber district, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations on Friday.

The military’s media wing said the joint operation was carried out on April 21 following reports of the presence of militants described as “Fitna al-Khawarij.” It added that the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire during the operation in an attempt to escape.

During the exchange of fire, a 10-year-old child was martyred, the statement said.

ISPR added that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, who were allegedly involved in multiple terrorist activities in the region. A sanitisation operation is currently underway to clear any remaining elements.

The military said the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign under “Azm-e-Istehkam” will continue to eliminate foreign-sponsored militancy from the country.

Pakistan has seen an increase in militant violence in recent years, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, both of which border Afghanistan.

Officials say security forces have intensified operations in response to rising cross-border attacks, with several large-scale engagements reported in recent months.

The statement reiterated that sacrifices made by civilians and security personnel reinforce Pakistan’s resolve to continue its counter-terrorism efforts.
