Atta Tarar accuses PTI of damaging Pakistan’s image through controversial statements

WEB DESK: Information Minister Atta Tarar on Sunday criticised remarks attributed to Noreen Niazi, alleging that they had generated public anger and were being highlighted by Indian media in a manner that undermined Pakistan’s image.

Speaking to the media, Tarar claimed the statements had provided “space and appreciation” in the Indian media and accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of attempting to use the controversy to regain political relevance.

“Politics should not be pursued at the cost of the country’s image,” the minister said, adding that political interests should never take precedence over national interests.

Tarar also criticised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, alleging that it had failed to effectively address public issues. He further claimed that some political opponents had been unable to accept Pakistan’s achievements following what he described as the success of “Marka-e-Haq.”

The information minister said Pakistan had received international recognition after Marka-e-Haq and asserted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had been acknowledged globally for their leadership.

He maintained that Pakistan’s achievements were being recognised by the international community and accused political opponents of attempting to undermine the country’s reputation for political purposes.

Tarar said disrespecting state institutions for political objectives was unacceptable, adding that political activity could only flourish in a stable and strong Pakistan.

He reiterated that the country was moving towards progress and development and said Pakistan’s achievements, including those linked to Marka-e-Haq, continued to receive international recognition.
