ISLAMABAD: A formal dinner was hosted by Hiba Fawad Chaudhry in honour of Chandi Raj Dhakal, President of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), bringing together senior officials and distinguished guests.

The event was attended by Deputy Chairman Senate Syedaal Khan Nasar, who, along with other participants, engaged in discussions on regional and global issues in a cordial and welcoming environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Nasar emphasised the need for SAARC to play a more active and effective role in addressing emerging challenges, noting that the platform must be revitalised to promote peace, stability, and regional cooperation.

He highlighted rising global tensions, particularly between the United States and Iran, stressing that SAARC should contribute constructively to de-escalation efforts.

The deputy chairman noted that Pakistan’s leadership has been making consistent efforts to promote dialogue and stability, including facilitating engagement between Washington and Tehran after decades.

He expressed hope that these diplomatic efforts would lead to lasting peace and meaningful outcomes, urging SAARC member states to support Pakistan’s initiatives.

Nasar also underscored the importance of reviving the SAARC process, which has remained largely inactive since 2016, and called on member countries, particularly India, to adopt a constructive approach for regional cooperation.

The event concluded with participants agreeing that such engagements are essential for strengthening ties and fostering collaboration across the region.
