Iranian FM Araghchi arrives in Islamabad for key talks
ISLAMABAD: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on Friday as part of a regional tour that also includes Muscat and Moscow, amid intensified diplomatic activity involving Iran, the United States and key regional players.
He was received at Nur Khan Airbase by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Araghchi described the trip as a “timely tour” aimed at coordinating on bilateral matters and consulting on evolving regional developments.
“Our neighbours are our priority,” he said, adding that discussions would focus on ongoing tensions and diplomatic engagement with key partners.
The visit comes at a time of heightened diplomatic efforts, with Pakistan actively facilitating dialogue between Tehran and Washington. Oman continues its traditional role as a quiet mediator, while Russia remains a key strategic partner for Iran.

According to government sources, Pakistan’s mediation could pave the way for a second round of peace talks between Iran and the United States in Islamabad, though no formal confirmation has been issued.
Meanwhile, the White House has confirmed that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner are expected to travel to Pakistan for what it described as the next phase of talks involving Iranian representatives.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the discussions would be “direct talks facilitated by Pakistan,” acknowledging Islamabad’s “invaluable” role in mediation efforts.
She added that senior US leadership would remain in Washington while closely monitoring developments, with some officials on standby for possible travel if required.
Araghchi is expected to hold key meetings with Pakistan’s leadership as efforts continue to explore further diplomatic engagement between Iran and the United States, with additional rounds of talks under consideration.
