Pakistan, Syria agree to further expand bilateral cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani on Thursday agreed to further expand bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Syria.

Al-Shaibani met Dar shortly after arriving in Islamabad on an official visit. According to the Foreign Office, the two leaders held a “warm and constructive” meeting and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the deep-rooted brotherly ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation in key areas of mutual interest and reviewed the regional situation.

The Foreign Office said both leaders pledged to maintain close collaboration and continue consultations on regional developments and matters of shared interest.

Earlier, upon his arrival at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Al-Shaibani was welcomed by the Additional Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

According to the Foreign Office, the Syrian foreign minister’s visit will cover all aspects of Pakistan-Syria bilateral relations, joint cooperation and key regional and global developments.

The ministry described the visit as an important step towards further strengthening diplomatic ties and expanding cooperation between the two countries.

Separately, Malaysian Interior Minister Saifuddin Nasution also arrived in Pakistan at the invitation of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

He was received by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry.

During his stay, the Malaysian minister is scheduled to meet senior Pakistani leadership to discuss internal security, bilateral relations and areas of mutual cooperation.
