Trump says health check ‘perfect’ ahead of 80th birthday

US president dismisses concerns over recent health questions, says latest medical examination showed ‘exceptional physical health’

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that “everything checked out perfectly” after undergoing a physical examination at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, amid renewed public scrutiny over his health ahead of his 80th birthday next month.

In a brief post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump confirmed he had completed his routine six-month medical examination but did not provide detailed results.

Trump, who turns 80 on June 14, frequently portrays himself as more energetic and physically fit than former president Joe Biden, who left office last year at the age of 82 after facing persistent questions about his health and fitness for office.

Recent photographs showing a blotchy rash on Trump’s neck, along with earlier images from July 2025 showing swollen ankles and bruising on his hand, had prompted renewed discussion about the president’s health condition.

The latest visit marked Trump’s third trip to Walter Reed in the past 13 months.

Despite maintaining a busy public schedule and regular golf outings, Trump joked recently about his level of physical activity during an Oval Office event alongside Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr..

Kennedy claimed the president walks nearly nine miles during golf sessions, prompting Trump to quip: “When I am not using the cart.”

White House physician Sean Barbabella previously stated that Trump was using a commonly prescribed cream as a “preventative skin treatment” for the neck rash but did not specify the underlying condition.

After photographs showing swelling in Trump’s legs and bruising on his hands surfaced last year, Barbabella said medical evaluations found no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease, describing the conditions as benign.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt later said the president’s leg swelling stemmed from a “common” vein condition, while the bruising on his hand resulted from frequent handshakes.

Trump also revealed last October that he underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan as part of another medical evaluation.

“The doctor said it was the best result he has ever seen as a doctor,” Trump told reporters at the time, while defending the decision to undergo the scan.

Medical experts noted that MRIs are generally not included in standard physical examinations and are typically ordered for more detailed diagnostic purposes.

In a memo released after Trump’s previous examination, Barbabella stated that the president’s cardiac age — measured through cardiovascular assessments including ECG readings — was approximately 14 years younger than his actual age.

Trump has additionally faced public attention after appearing to briefly doze off during several official meetings, including a Cabinet session earlier this year.

Responding to the criticism in February, Trump dismissed the claims humorously, saying: “I didn’t sleep. I just closed them because I wanted to get the hell outta here.”

Meanwhile, Biden was diagnosed last year with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones and subsequently underwent radiation treatment.
