Aleema Khan moves IHC against alleged solitary confinement of Imran Khan
ISLAMABAD: Aleema Khan has filed a writ petition in the Islamabad High Court against the alleged solitary confinement of her brother, Imran Khan, who remains incarcerated at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail.
The petition, filed through Barristers Salman Safdar and Salman Akram Raja, argued that keeping the PTI founder in solitary confinement was unlawful and not supported by any judicial order.
Imran Khan has remained in custody for more than 1,000 days since his imprisonment in August 2023 following convictions that he and his party describe as politically motivated.
According to the petition, no court has ever sentenced the former prime minister to solitary confinement. It further alleged that his lawyers were being prevented from meeting him for legal consultation and for obtaining signatures on power of attorney documents.
Aleema Khan requested the Islamabad High Court to declare her brother’s alleged solitary confinement and incommunicado detention illegal, unlawful and without lawful authority.
The petition also maintained that the alleged confinement violated Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution of Pakistan, which relate to security of person and dignity of man.
Imran Khan’s sisters and PTI leaders have repeatedly voiced concerns over his alleged solitary confinement, deteriorating health and lack of access to adequate facilities in prison. However, these claims have consistently been rejected by the federal government and the Adiala jail administration.
Family members and party leaders have also raised concerns regarding the health of both Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, particularly after recent eye-related medical procedures.

They have demanded their transfer to a hospital for proper medical care and diagnostic testing under the supervision of doctors and family members, along with improved access for relatives and legal teams.
Since his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022, Imran Khan has faced multiple legal cases, including allegations related to state gifts and an unlawful marriage case.
While some convictions have been suspended or overturned, several appeals remain pending before higher courts. Khan continues to deny all allegations of wrongdoing.
