Bushra Bibi shifted back to Adiala jail after successful eye surgery
ISLAMABAD: Bushra Bibi, spouse of Imran Khan, has been shifted back to Adiala jail in Rawalpindi after undergoing successful eye surgery for retinal detachment, sources said on Friday.
According to prison sources, Bushra Bibi had complained of impaired vision in her right eye, prompting jail authorities to arrange an urgent medical examination. Ophthalmology specialists diagnosed retinal detachment and advised immediate surgical intervention.
She was subsequently moved to a private hospital in Rawalpindi on April 16, where pre-operative evaluations were conducted. The surgery was performed by Dr Nadeem Qureshi along with a team of medical experts after obtaining her consent.
Following the procedure and an overnight stay, she was discharged and transferred back to Adiala jail. Sources confirmed that her condition is stable, with post-operative care and follow-up examinations to continue as per medical advice.
Family members, including her daughter and sister, were allowed to meet her at the prison after her return. Earlier, her sister Mariam Riaz Watto had indicated that the family had been called to the hospital ahead of the surgery.

Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan confirmed her hospitalisation and called for immediate access for family members, also reiterating demands for the transfer of Imran Khan to a hospital for medical treatment. He stressed that access to healthcare and family visits are fundamental rights.
Bushra Bibi was arrested in January 2025 following her conviction in a corruption case linked to Al-Qadir University. In December 2025, she and Imran Khan were sentenced to 17 years in prison in the Toshakhana-2 case.
Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated at Adiala jail since August 2023, continues to face multiple legal cases. His health has remained a concern, with medical reports indicating that he suffers from central retinal vein occlusion, a condition affecting vision in his right eye.
