Trump says US delegation to attend Islamabad Talks, warns Iran over deal
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has announced that representatives from his administration will visit Pakistan to participate in the Islamabad Talks, as diplomatic efforts intensify to secure a deal between Washington and Tehran.
The announcement comes amid heightened expectations that Trump himself might attend the talks. However, he clarified that only US officials would represent his administration in the negotiations.
In a strongly worded statement, Trump said the United States was offering a “very fair and reasonable deal” to Iran, while warning of severe consequences if an agreement is not reached.
“We’re offering a very fair and reasonable deal… if they don’t, the United States is going to knock out every single power plant, and every single bridge, in Iran,” he said.
Trump also accused Iran of violating the ceasefire by opening fire in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming that vessels including a French ship and a UK freighter were targeted.
Referring to developments in the Gulf, he said the waterway was effectively closed due to a US blockade, adding that the disruption was causing significant economic losses for Iran.
The remarks signal a sharp escalation in rhetoric despite ongoing diplomatic engagement, as both sides weigh options for a potential agreement.

Security tightened in Islamabad
Meanwhile, authorities in Islamabad have implemented extensive security and traffic management measures ahead of the expected arrival of foreign delegations.
The Red Zone and extended Red Zone have been completely sealed for all traffic, while the Expressway from Koral to Zero Point has been closed. Traffic on Srinagar Highway may also be suspended intermittently.
Entry of heavy vehicles into the capital has been banned, and transporters have been advised to avoid traveling to the city during this period.
Residents have been provided with alternative routes, including access via 9th Avenue through Margalla Road, while additional diversions have been arranged through Stadium Road, Murree Road, Chandni Chowk and Rawal Road to ease congestion.
The measures come as Islamabad prepares to host another critical round of talks aimed at easing tensions and advancing a possible agreement between the United States and Iran.
